Whole Home Technology

The project brief for this private home in Kent was vast – a true whole home technology installation. The property, located away from any villages or towns, suffered with slow internet speed. The Client’s brief was to increase the reliability & speed of the incoming service and create complete control of the home via Apple devices, both in the home and away. Other services installed include a security system consisting of intruder alarm & CCTV, state of the art Dolby Atmos home cinema, video streaming including 5 Sky boxes to 16 TVs (including an outdoor TV in the garden), and in excess of 16 zones of audio. Along with automated lighting the Client also specified in excess of 30 automated blinds and curtains.

Before first fix cabling commenced on this project, it was essential to ensure the system was designed correctly. Many hours were spent producing layout drawings, elevations & schematics for the proposed system. Over the course of the project, the scope of works increased, and having the original design in place made it easy to understand what could be added to the system with minimal impact to the build program of the house.

The project involved bi weekly co-ordination meetings, with Circle Automation taking responsibility for overseeing the coordination of the M&E package.

With a 130” 16:9 projection screen, the cinema was a huge success. Consisting of 3 front channel speakers, 2 surround channels, 2 rear channels, 1 subwoofer & 4 overhead Dolby Atmos speakers the room not only looked incredible it sounded stunning too.

The house also required some in depth coordination with other services. Circle Automation integrated control of the pool cover into the Lutron system, minimising the amount of switches needed on the wall in the pool room.   Each one of the rooms in the house had its own underfloor heating loop, and our engineers ensured that each room could be controlled individually from the Savant Pro app, either within the home or away.

During the main works to the house, the Client approached us to explore the possibilities of installing a permanent outdoor TV complete with sound system for the newly created garden and terrace areas.  Circle Automation designed and installed an Orgin Acoustics external audio system, consisting of a power amplifier driving 10 satellite speakers and 2 subwoofers. The TV is located within a shaded area, but due to the high brightness screen is viewable even on the brightest of summer days.
